A Conversation for Cuban Sandwich - engineering marvel

clzoomer- a bit woobly

Decades ago here in Vancouver the local beer halls would serve what was called a *Cubanette*. It was usually the last resort for those who were to lazy to get up, go out and find real food but it filled a gap for the inebriated. It was a pre-made sandwich that was supplied for those establishments that had infra-red *grills* installed behind the bar. A small French style loaf came pre-split with ham, bacon, cheese and chopped onions in a bizarre kind of plastic that became brittle when exposed to the heating coils. It was served with pickles, the sweet variety and was to be kind, an experience.

I've had the real thing in a local Cuban eatery and believe me, you didn't miss a thing not having visited here thirty years ago.

smiley - cheers
