but nothing - nothing - nothing - beats Milton Keynes for sheer hair-tearing frustration. Roundabouts - oh God the roundabouts

if you do visit cambridge then the best thing to do is leave your car somewhere else and walk. and get a good map.

AC-tually - I really like Cambridge - the colleges, the bridges, the romance! Food at Browns or coffe at Clowns. Am definitely going to tick off the Scott Polar Institute someday.

At least Cambridge has history, a seat of learning and some beauty. If you want a confusing one way system in a place that lacks all these...and any kind of centre or reference point...try Stoke.

the whipple museum of the history of science and technonolgy is very good for an hours pondering before you go for an ice cream after lunch
you'll need to check the opening hours because they are a bit odd but it certainly worth a visit, escpecially if you are a scientist. the old microsopes and stuff are REALLY cool
also punting is good, followed by ice cream (thorntons is the best)
and the englisch teddy bear company shop and all the other touristy places on kings parade.

Amman and Ice Cream
julyflower Posted Feb 18, 2002
Actually I meant back to the subject of Amman. I was in the airport in 1977 en route to Saudi Arabia, I was asked for airport tax for some reason though I was in transit, I didn't have a bean on me but someone I had met on the plane paid it for me then told his large extended family I was his fiance, he was speaking in Arabic and I just wondered why the entire family was looking at me frozen with horror

i like fish food too.
my fave thorntons icecream is the double choc one which is really sticky.
the only food i liked in germany was the chocolate icecream, lovely and bitter.
julyflower.....how did you know what the guy said if you dont speak arabic?

Because he explained to me (in English) why his whole family who had been been happy and smiling suddenly looked at me and
I have never tried Thorntons ice cream but I will!

Julyflower - I suspect that may be the single most interesting thing to have happened at Amman Airport (hijackings excluded).
So did you marry him?

It must be really annoying being small and furry, people coming up to pat and stroke you the whole time?
No I didn't marry the Jordanin army captain though I have a photo of us taken by an air hostess
Anyway that's only when the adventures begun , when I arrived in Riyadh I was surrounded by hordes of taxi drivers fighting over me and my luggage.........I was disappearing under the scrum...

chubby hubby is indeed a ben and jerry's ice cream. the other flavor is "phish food," spelled with a ph, not an f at the beginning, in honor of the music band "phish," which is legendary in the "jam-band" scene in the united states. phish is amazing, and the ice cream can only aspire to be as good...
