A truly wonderful read!! Being relatively local (Derbyshire) I can relate personally to many of the places and details listed. I was only nonplussed once; and that was at the mention of the 'Old Oak' I have always known it to be referred to as the 'Major Oak' - have I missed the plot somewhere? or are we talking two different trees?

This is a question for knowledge; and not meant in any way as a criticism of an absolutely stunning piece. smiley - applausesmiley - applause

Yes, I have always referred to the oldest oak in Sherwood Forest as The Major Oak.

Perhaps the H2 Editors could possibly have a look-seesmiley - smiley

Gnomon - time to move on

've changed it to Major Oak and added a link to another BBC page about the oak.
