Well the gay scene in general centres around drinking, it's one of the main critisms that it's difficult for non drinkers to meet people.

Well why not!, despite the focus on alcohol, there's not the same amount of drinking for the sake of it as there is on Broad Street. Are you from Brum then?

Anywhere (even, I suspect, remotest Siberia) is a step up from this, the home of Mary Whitehouse and tragic ring roads. Featuring 'gay and lesbian night' at the Courtyard, which in daylight is where the pensioners go when they're not sitting on the town centre bench.
And the only person I've ever met in the library was a creepy, 'not mature mentally' old man, who overestimated my age by a decade or so and thus decided I'd welcome being bothered by him.

Ah Ok I see, sounds like the town where my parents come from, which was not good. My ex was outed to her neighbours and she got so much "hassle" she wsa rehoused my the council.

I am in Brum from time to time during term... also I hear the university needs life models. So I might be there more.
