A Conversation for The Swansea Devil

Great article, with double interest as I'm at Swansea Uni and come from Nottingham, where Fothergill Watson, AKA Watson Fothergill made his name (Yes, I know FW/WF didn't really design St Mary's, but I thought I'd mention it since he's in the article).
Shortly after reading this, I was walking past St Mary's, looking up at the Quadrant centre and trying to imagine Old Nick sitting on high looking down on the Sunday worshippers. Then, as I was about to enter the Quadrant centre, I caught a glimpse of a tall, horned effigy grinning down at me. Gave me a bit of a shock, actually!
The Swansea devil is actually on display, in the windows above the St. Mary's entrance to the Quadrant, but it's not very easy to spot because it's set back from the rest of the building and obscured by a large canopy.

Thanks for the tip re the location of Swansea's Devil - it used to be quite low down at ther entrance to the market at that end of the quadrant - I had wondered where it was! Will look for it next time I'm in town.

He's looking expectantly out of the window above the east entrance to the Quadrant (where C&A used to be). I think we should get a campaign going to re-instate him.
Key: Complain about this post
