The only thing you shouldn't use WD40 on is the insides of computers...
More specifically, the very slightly corrosive quality which makes it so useful for penetrating rusted-up bolts etc. is enough to completely dissolve away the extremely fine and thin tracks found on modern printed circuit boards.
Instead, look for a product called "Servisol Super 10", in a white can with a red lid and logo. It does pretty much everything WD40 does, except for the corrosive action. It doesn't free up bolts, but it's essential for spraying chip sockets before inserting the chips, lubricating card slots on old motherboards and making noisy fans into quiet ones...
