A Conversation for Latin Pronunciation - A Beginner's Guide
Latin pronunciation

The guide is good as far as it goes but omits a couple of particularly important points:
's' is always hissed and never pronounced as 'z';
'gn' (e.g. in 'dignus') is pronounced 'ngn', cf English 'hangnail'.
In spite of some comments. 'v' is always 'w' in classical Latin.
Later Latin is of course a very different matter. When it comes to singing it all depenmds on when and where the music was composed. A compact guide can be found in Harold Copeman's little book Singing in Latin.
I have a small program on classical pronunciation which can be found at www.classicsnet.plus.com/readitright.htm.
