A Conversation for William the Conqueror

Family Lore

Post 1

According to http://www.154thny.com/154thnyReborn/FamilyHistory/VikingAncestors.aspx There are seven historic eminences that have borne the name of "Hubba's Hill". By family lore King Canute gave Harold of Hubba’s Hill in Northumberland a family crest with the crown and raven as components. This man and his sons are reputed to have come down and fought against William I . Being on the losing side, they lost their land in Northumberland and went into obscurity for many generations. Accounts vary as to whether it was the 'Harrying of the North' or some more local upheaval but supposedly when harold's remaining sons returned to Northumberland following the battle of Hastings they found their Keep burned down and land in ruins.
