A Conversation for Dalai Lama

Mistakes in the First Paragraph

1. "The Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people" is a false statement. There are five schools of Tibetan buddism. His Holiness Dalai Lama is only the leader of one of the schools. His Holiness Panchan Lama, who is as prestigous, generally supports the Chinese government. It is fair to say that His Holiness Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of SOME of the Tibetan people. 2. China did not "invade" Tibet in 1959. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F1822737?thread=5410038

John the gardener says, "Free Tibet!"

It is misleading to suggest that the Dalai Lama is just one of many Tibetan leaders, even if nominally that is the case, as he is revered by people from all over the Buddhist world. It is quite common to see Vietnames, Sri Lankans, Japanese, and so on, in attentance at teachings given by His Holiness.

The real Panchen Lama, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, was kidnapped as a small boy and his whereabouts and condition remain unknown:

"Being revered" is not the same as being the spiritual leader of all Tibetans. He does not represent all Tibetans.

Granted. Nevertheless, the overwhelming majority of Tibetans would consider His Holiness to be their spiritual leader.

It is not correct to say that the Dalai Lama is the leader of any school within the traditional Tibetan schools of Buddhism. Not even the Galugpa! Of course the Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of those who for personal reasons want to follow him. It is more correct to generally view him as a temporal ruler of Tibet. But it looks like the Chinese government disputes that. for more information about some of the mistakes the Dalai Lama has and continues to do please visit http://wisdombuddhadorjeshugden.org/

First you accept that it is the case that he is only one of many spiritual leaders then you make all those highly realized and respected teachers[leaders]insignificant by using the word nominally and your proof is that Buddhist from japan etc showing reverence to the Dalai lama. Many Buddhist form all over the world show reverence to other Tibetan spiritual teachers[leaders]does that make those spiritual teachers any special??smiley - huh I do not understand your point.please explain the logic.

The website you have provided a link to is an interesting choice since the Dalai Lama' opposition to Dholgyal (Shugden) practise is well known.

The Dalai Lama is obviously more than one of many spiritual leaders - even the Chinese government would agree to that. There are obviously several facets to His Holiness persona, including His place in the complex hierarchy of Tibetan Buddhist lineage holders, His significance to Buddhists from different cultures, as well as His status as a spiritual icon to non-Buddhists in many parts of the world, which is unique and based, in part, on his moral authority and promotion of a system of ethics that is secular in nature.

Indeed, to some people it is a well known fact that the Dalai Lama is opposed to the practice of Dorje Shugden.
However many of these people may know about it without any insight to the meaning of this dispute and its repercussion.
These people take the Dalai Lama's position on good and very blind faith knowing very little about his actions.
Actions that are the opposite to the morality that he is suppose to represent and that in truth take away any moral authority he had.
I choose the website http://wisdombuddhadorjeshugden.org/ for people to know that a small Holocaust is beginning somewhere in the world far away from the highlights of the media which love him so much. and just as in the past so too know someone has to say something.otherwise the suffering of so many will continue unnoticed.[I am sorry if my Jewish background is out of order]
His actions are resembling something the world is trying to forget they are not an action of a Buddhist lineage holder.
I think, his disciples need to go to him with reverence in their mind and humbly remind him of the fact that in the 21st century people are allowed to live with dignity, free from religious oppression and that it is the job of the majority to protect the minority's rights.
No one will be harmed if he says 'sorry I was out of order'. Surely a revered Buddhist master knows how to say sorry and finds it easy after all it is one of the Bodhisattva's commitments to offer apologizes when apologizes are needed.
I promise you many more people will come to regard him in high esteem and for a very good reason too.smiley - winkeye
Try, see what happens? smiley - smiley
Love and good lucksmiley - ok

It is ridiculous to describe the Dalai Lama's caution against Shugden practise as a "small Holocaust". I am surprised that someone of Jewish background (I don't know why you brought that up) would use the term so frivolously.

My comment came in order to shed some light, to wake up those who are asleep. we are talking about serious matters here. Under the Dalai Lama's regime, holy books are being burned and people being ostracized-travel documents are not given to those who do not sign a form in which they declare that they will never practice or help materially or spiritually those who practice the Deity Dorje Shugden. If this is not a violation of human rights I do not know what is!!! Statues are smashed and people are being hunted down. The list goes on and on. Now he does it to people under his rule helpless people who are trapped because they have no rights, no freedom and the world is still in love with this person. What about human rights?? what about the responsibility of society to protect groups with in it??? Soon he will try and make the western governments do the same to westerners who wish to practice this holy Deity. These are some of the few reasons why I brought it up. His disciples need to know and stop follow him blindly. Check the facts for yourself. However his disciples just carry on blindly. Like the Germans with Hitler who afterwards said we did not know etc.....
Dorje Shugden does not obstract any one on the Buddhist Path to Enlightement. Why does the Dalai lama ??

With love and respect
