I go to school with a girl from Tibet. She left when her uncle came to take her to India, where she lived for a while. The story was turned into a PBS documentary, called "Home to Tibet". Her story is simply amazing, and certainly not especially unique. We were all very happy when she was finally granted US asylum last year .

John the gardener says, "Free Tibet!" Posted Jan 15, 2002
I'm glad that your friend has found a good home. Let's hope that one day she will have the option of returning to a free Tibet.
Another chapter of this opus is about the Tibetan diaspora. In many ways the Tibetan people's misfortune has been our gain, in the sense that our own lives are enriched by having the opportunity to meet Tibetans and learn something of their wonderful, rich culture and unique worldview.

So very true. We all love her very much, and we are so glad that she's here, but it is always sad to think that she is not here by choice, no matter how happy she is. Though she is almost always very happy .
