Yes, I keep hearing the modem dialling up in my head as well... especially if I haven't been online for a day or so...

i think that there should be a help club for those addicted to the internet including a centre where those affected can get away from the internet. and it could be called net help or something.
another thought, wouldnt it be great if there was a CD made of all the dial tones in the world, id buy it.

Dear friend, What are dial tones? And what are threads? I think that if I had known what either of these things were I might have become an h2g2 addict. Fortunately I think I have missed it although I still enjoy hearing from the friends I made and also reading some of the interesting articles written by the researchers. I keep up with world news on various web sites - say my prayers on others - garden on others - keep up with the latest books on others - In fact I think that I love life thanks,in part.to the web sites that I have found. And now I am trying to find a cottage in Cornwall through the web. So all I can suggest is to try and make the web WORK for you; try not to get caught IN the web. Good luck. AR1

My dear Ming Mang, Thank you so much for bothering to tell me what both those terms mean. I am not yet clear on the thread though. Is a thread something that is started when there is a comment at the bottom of a journal entry? Do threads" belong" to the people who wrote the journal entry? How does one start another conversation? Say for instance that I would like to talk to you - that is providing you would like to talk to me! - but possibly about something other than inherent addiction. How do I set about it? Lots of questions. Now I must go and listen to my 10 0'clock slot on politics. Perhaps that is my addiction. Perhaps we are all addicted to something or someone. Thank you for your kind interest in my problem. a big from AR1

A thread is basically a conversation. (As far as I've worked out anyway. ) They can be started on a page easily by clicking the 'Discuss this entry' button. So if you wanted to start another conversation to do with the article 'Internet Addiction', you'd go to the article and press the button and then do just as you would when replying normally. If you wanted to come and talk to me (and I'd be happy to talk back! ) then you go to my page and do the same thing. As to who a thread belongs to... it's generally who's page they're on. But it doesn't really matter and could probably be debated until the cows come home and still not reach a conclusion.
I hope that helps.
