Such as some places try hopefully to get people to leave tips and it doesn't usually work, that tipping seems to be considered almost rude, sort of like you're suggesting you're so much above someone else you can afford to give them some loose change, but it's okay with taxi drivers because you can just say "Thanks mate - don't worry about the change".

Being Australian and an Actor means I have vast and extensive experience in the Hospitality field 'Down Under' and I can say that the above entry is almost entirely false. Although tipping is not compulsory as it is in the US it is still very much appreciated and in many of the Bars and Restaurants (especially the middle to higher end of the scale) tipping is quite common. This is especially true when dealing with Coktails, Fine Dining and Nightclubs. I can't speak for the whole of Australia, but I have worked in Bars/Resaurants in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

Yes, I wish that could be changed because it's not very accurate. Although, I did recently find an official government pamphlet for visitors to Australia that says there isn't an obligation to tip, so that made me feel a bit better.
