A Conversation for Gift Vouchers

Woolworth Vouchers

I was in a difficult position when Woolworth went bust. I had hundreds of pounds worth of their vouchers at work which we gave to volunteers for their birthdays etc as a small thank you for helping on projects with children.

I had to dash into the shop and try and buy something that would last. By then the shop looked like a very dodgy jumble sale with most of the shelves 90% empty and specially bought in rubbish to sell while the ship was closing down.

In the end I bought videos for kids. I bought one of every Uc title they had. Then all the U's. Then all of the PGs. Then all of the 12s. Then all of the 15s. I then got Bluray versions of things that were already sold out in DVD. I still had vouchers left so I bought a dvd player and some other stuff. They had to allocate me my own shop assistant to ring up all of the stuff I had bought.

I really think that you should never, ever buy vouchers with a use by date on them. Your money didn't have a use by date on it, did it?

That gives an organised supply of films for the next few years at least :D

I can never decide whether i agree with companies putting time limits on their vouchers, they wouldnt like being bankrupted by a quick burst of vouchers, but the Bank of England backing money indefintely is one of the more helpful things they do.

Maybe companies should guarantee a certain percentage of a voucher's worth to be paid in cash upon demand?
