A trademark of his stage performances was the large number of banjo-ukes lined up behind him. He seemed to change instruments for little reason. In time it became a standing joke in his act. Towards the end of his career, he confessed that he could only ever play the instument in one key. The real reason for the many instruments was that they were each tuned to a different key .......
