a lot of work has gone into this list smiley - grovel we are not worthy to comment but will anyway smiley - winkeye.

you haven't mentioned "garron" which is a Scots term for a stocky riding horse. Is it still in use or gone as archaic?

Sadly I know little about horses and even less about those found over the border..... I am sure there are many other local terms that will surface and I will endeavour to investigate.

Thanks mate, really interesting. It's amazing how much our language has these farming terms, and how little we know what they mean, (perhaps you could expand on this aspect - let me know if you do). Next time I call someone a jack-ass I'll know what I'm talking about!

Incidentally, I couldn't help an involuntary 'aah..' when I read about orphan lambs.
