In the SNES version at least there was a 2 player version. Basically, the screen was split (Giving you each your own screen + control panel) and tehre were two exit gates one with a green flag and one with blue. These were usually at opposite ends to the level which was pretty much identical at either side of teh entrance. There was (if memory serves) one entrance. (Usually at the centre of teh level) Out of the entrance fell two different looking lemmings, one blue with green hair and one green with blue. (one type for each player) the idea was to save more lemmings than your opponent, sadly you could only command your own lemmings so beating your opponet usually meant sending one lemming off to your opponents "side" to either sabotage his attempts to get his lemmings home (By killing tehm) or to redirect them to your gate. Of course doing thsi you run teh risk of him countersabotaging your efforts. It was fantastic.

This part of the game has caused more fights between me and my brother than anything else EVER. My tactics of blocking his stream was constantly called 'cheating' and resulted in the controller being rested from my hand and now you have brought back the terrible memorise which I had erradicated form my memory

The 2-player version was included, in a way, in the Acorn Archimedes version of the game. If you used the cheat to skip the last level twenty times, the extra levels would be revealed. Of course, there was no actual 2-player functionality, but simply the maps that they would have used.
