Lansing's Five seasons

Elsewhere in h2g2 I saw where someone had placed almost a whole article in post no.1 of a forum. So Perhaps an extended subtopic will work here.
For many years I have said I like the four seasons in Michigan. then it hit metoday. there really are five and they are these: 1. Winter The year starts out in January with everything coldf and lifeless. Salt trucks and snow plows make roads passable and life goes on. it is a time for skiing, sledding, skating and waiting for this dreadful cold season to pass.
2. Spring a time of rebirth. Beginning when the first crocus blooms in March. Continuing through Easter and the time when the trees get their leaves. A time for planting gardens and watching the fruit trees bloom.
3.Summer beginning when the sunlight reaches it's farthest point north when then shadow of the Polaris ring at sunset reaches half a block to the South-East. the days grow hot an the nights swelter. Dawn comes early. A time for swimming, mowing lawns and buying back to school outfits for the kids.
4. Autumn. beginning in September when the Kids once more are in School. A time of new TV schedules, football and crisp mornings as the leaves turn to yellow and orange and red. A time of harvesting and hayrides and halloween.
5. The holidays. As the days grow shorter and the nights longer the deciduous trees grow bare and the houses and evergreens are decked with multicoloured lights. It is a time for Thanksgiving Turkey, Watching bowl games on TV, a time for Christmas shopping and Santa at the Mall. Then for watching all those presents beneath the Christmas tree be opened and finally a time for staying up until midnight to wish a certain someone Happy New Year then getting up late on New Years day to start the whole cycle again.

Speaking as a Michigander, I can tell you that many of us believe there are only 2 seasons: Construction and Winter.
Though others may give you renditions on that list.

As bad as the streets were in Lansing last winter. Many were longing for construction season to start.
