A Conversation for Lucerne, Switzerland
Fasnacht

It is really worth going to see. The only time I was in Luzern for a day trip was during Fasnacht, and I didn't know that this was going on. I quickly found out after wondering why everyone seemed to be drunk and dressed up at 10am on Monday morning!
The parades and general goings on are a real sight to see. It certainly looked like the whole town spent a year preapring, building inventive costumes, machines and floats and getting ready to go nuts - Swiss style.

I have been to various fasnacht parades in Switzerland - however does anyone know the dates for Feb 2008 Lucerne Fasnacht?

I'm afraid I can't help you with that, but I've left you a message on your Personal Space with a link to a place called 'Ask H2G2'. If you post your question there, you just might get a response

Any time
If you need anything else, just yell. (Or type, since I probably won't be able to hear you)

as a Baslerbebbi i.e. someone who originates from Basel i have to let you know that we have a Fasnacht that is equally as good if not more famous then the Luzerner Fasnacht. Ours begins with the morgestraich on Monday morning 04.00 am!!! most people stay up from the night before some may even stay up all weekend, it is after all only once a year event!
it goes on for most of the week, or until you lose your voice. Dressing up is a must and also one has to have a "Laarve-mask" it covers your face totally and it usually is not supposed to be taken off until midnight on the cherus ball. The Fasnacht starts often at the end of February or the beginning of March. If you like to party in the open this is it!
