A Conversation for Laser Eye Surgery

I've had extensive laser surgery done to both my eyes, but it wasn't to correct a focusing defect. I was (am) suffering from "Diabetic Retinopathy", where small fragments of thin-walled blood vessel start to form at right-angles to the surface of the retina, which, in conjunction with high blood pressure, pose a risk of bleeding into the eye. I lost the useful sight in my right eye through the scarring caused by this, and my left eye was only saved by laser surgery. In this procedure, the laser is used to burn away the ends of "suspect" blood vessels, cauterising the ends in the process.

It can be quite a painful process, at times feeling like someone is driving nails through the back of your eye, and the "fallout" leads to a loss of peripheral vision, but without it I'd be blind now. smiley - bigeyes
