h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

hi, im a 1st yr psychology student who has to do an essay on the bystander effect. i was wondering if anybody knew of any good/interesting/helpful sites that give examples of the bystander phenomenon that i can use as references in my assignment, or even any famous incidents (apart froom the kitty genovese murder)as i need to include examples to support my views and i have yet to find anything useful enough. hope you can help

Just over a month ago in Leeds city centre(UK) and young woman was attacked and beaten by a complete stranger. It was five o'clock in the afternoon in the middle of the shopping and business district. The attacker walked upto this lady and punched her until she fell over. He then walked away, paused, and came back to start kicking her. At this time of day the streets must have been teeming with people just leaving work or heading home after a good days shopping, yet no-one intervened, and no witnesses could be found. The lady in question lost her unborn child thanks to the bystander effect.

A few months ago in Prtland, OR, a man walked csually up to another man, emptied a pistol into him, and walked casually away down the street. it was some minutes before the police were called, and the shooter made it to California before being arrested.
