There are quite a few non-Orthodox Jews who still try to keep Kashrut, but disagree with the separation of milk and meat. The prohibition is only against boiling a kid in its mother's milk, which, IIRC, was a pagan dish. Thus the law does not extend to not eating cheeseburgers, or to not eating milk and chicken, for example.
Just some food for thought (pun intended).
