Out of interest, you might like to read 'Ash - A Secret History' by Mary Gentle, it's historical fantasy and features the brazen head.
You might like it, you might not, bit gritty and coarse in places, but different.

That's interesting - I have a borrowed copy of it sitting on my pile of books waiting to be read. I don't usually have a TBR pile, it's just that I've got so distracted by all the activity here on h2g2 that I've got way behind in my reading. Thanks for the tip - that's a definite incentive (and it's nice to know that someone else actually looked at my entry!)
