Castle Rock

... is a small town in Colorado. Since King lived in Boulder for a while, I would guess this is significant. The town is so named because a huge rock outcropping beside a passing highway looks like a medieval fortress when viewed from a distance.
During King's stay, Castle Rock was a stopover area for folks heading to the Rocky Mountains for their vacation. These days, Castle Rock is home to a large outdoor shopping area... and little else. I remember going there and thinking that the place had a very surreal air. Especially in the older parts of town, the locals are quiet to the point of mysteriousness.
