Before everything, pour some wine in a cup and add a little cornflour, or maizena. Put that mixture in the saucepan, and then add cheese and wine in small doses one after another. This will prevent the wine and cheese staying more or less separate and instead have them amalgamate into the most delicious gooey stuff for you to gorge on with your friends... drip drip drip drip smiley - smiley

Another way is to add the flour or similar substance to the chopped-up cheese in a bowl, and stir up so that all the bits of cheese are dusted with flour.

Another important thing is to choose a really cheap and sour white wine. In Switzerland you can buy fondue wine, which is as cheap as it is sour. You wouldn't want to drink that any more than you would like a PGGB on an empty stomach.
Chances are you don't have cheap and sour wine, because you generously offered it the last time you aunt came to visit. Coincidentally, you also had a terrible headache that day and the mere thought of drinking alcohol made you sick.
No reason for despair. You may actually use the most expensive wine you happen to have around, just add a little lemon juice and all will be well.
