A Conversation for The East Frisian Tea Ceremony

East Frisia and Frisia

This is a very nice article, and largely accurate. But East Frisia doesn't stretch all the way to the Weser River - because east of East Frisia is Frisia! The ancient border between these two lordships runs between the small towns of Wittmund and Jever, and over the centuries many battles were fought between the Frisians and East Frisians. However, as the article shows the commonalities between 'us' (I'm a Frisian) and 'them' are bigger than the differences... The water in Frisia, by the way, is indeed excellent and very soft, forming the basis for the famous Jever Pilsener beer. Off to a cup of Thiele Tee now!

You can call me TC

Oh - thank you for that. I always thought it was East Frisia, because it was East of Friesland in the Netherlands. According to this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frisia

the area you describe is called North Frisia.

However, in the German version of the above link, Landkreis Friesland is, as you say, the area around Wilhemshaven, to the North-East, on the borders of the Weser.

No, North Frisia is up on the way to Denmark. The Dutch Frisia is really West Frisia. East of that is East Frisia, and East of that is Frisia (next to Wilhelmshaven indeed). And then up north is North Frisia (but I find North Frisians quite different from East Frisians and Frisians). I have never met a South Frisian, though. I think they'd prefer coffee. smiley - biggrin
