A Conversation for Joy Division - the Band

Think my favourite is 'Transmission', especially seeing Ian Curtis on the telly doing that wild, shaking (epileptic?) dance which seems to have been appropriated recently by Thom Yorke of Radiohead.
Must admit that it was a while before I realised that 'Closer' is pronounced 'Clozer' as in final, rather than 'Closer' as in nearer. Easy mistake to make.
Fine article about an historic band. Can't stand New Order though!

Actually, that rumour is incorrect, as the band and Rob Gretton (Manager) had chosen the name for the album before Curtis' demise.
It is pronounced as 'Closer'.
Another point is that Peter Saville had already come up with the artwork for 'Closer' and 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' well before Ian's death, and it was already being printed - Factory, being predictably slow, had delayed release, hoping that sales would be boosted after the (non-happening) US tour.
Another point to note, which many people get wrong, is that the cover for 'LWTUA' is NOT a gravestone, but a stamp on a metal sheet.
