The h2g2 Poem

My First Step

Do you know it would be very neat

To be able to stand on my own two feet

To be able to move on two not four

Not to have knee's so sore

My mum and dad would clap at the sight

Of seeing me finally jump upright

To walk, to jog, to run and jump

Always looks like such great fun

But every time I struggle and try

I end up falling and begin to cry

I really don't mean to cause a fuss

My mum's gentle words making me hush

Until I once more get the nerve to stand

Holding tightly to a helping hand

I get unsteadily up, oh look at me

I'm standing tall, I smile with glee

I move my foot, and take my first step

My mother's tears, oh how she wept

I would have thought she would of been happy, not sad

So for reasurance I turn to dad

His smile of happiness, he is full of pride

Looking forward to the day when I walk at his side

But that is for the future, and though it might seem funny

All I want to do now, is rest and suck my dummy
