Somehow, the words 'there's a thriving economy on the beach' have found their way into the paragraph 'The Beach' in place of a full stop!

Oops, another oddball - '...cocacola um real' has been mistranslated as 'real coca cola' when the sentence means that all these things *cost* one Real.

Hi Ashley, I'm following you around just to nitpick. Or so it seems, anyway. I still see the strange "There's a thriving economy on the beach" instead of a full stop (mentioned above).

Feel free to plague me - it keeps me on my toes...
*Now* it should be fixed (cross fingers)
As usual let me know....

Thanks for the help with these corrections guys! Er, but, spotted another one (it's not easy to find bugs in your own material!)
Some translations have appeared in the eating and drinking section - gurjoes de piexe is ok, but anyone expecting cookies for 'bolinhos de bacalhao' will be rather surprised when presented with deep fried codfish balls!
On a philosphical note: I probably missed something in the editing stage, as this was my first effort and it was something of a surprise to get it noticed, let alome edited and posted on the front page, but I noticed a fairly big jump from the 'recommended' to the 'edited' status and wonder if I missed an opportunity for discussion somewhere? For example, I'd have liked to have defended my 'lesser vendor' and 'greater vendor' who have mutated into 'vendor' and 'better vendor' (I was trying to present them in the manner of the wildlife programmes, hence the title of the section).
This isn't a complaint, just a search to know how to do it better next time!
Cheers,
Neil

Hi Everyone,
Ashley's doing the front page at the moment, so I've come in to help The 'them' should be in there now and I've altered the translation of bolinhos de bacalhao.
As for discussing editing, you're welcome to let us know what you think. This entry, though, sped through the editing process as we were a bit short of entries, which is probably why you didn't get the chance to discuss changes...

BTW It is Bacalhau (with a u at the end)
And Guaraná is not obtained from amozonian berries but from the seeds (the pulpy part tastes horrible). (BTW: The guaraná that can be drunk as a soft-drink does not contain any caffeine or any stimulant whatsoever -- they checked that out recently -- it is not like the disco-red-bull stuff you get here in the EU. If someone gets dizzy or stimulated after drinking guaraná it's purely psychological.
The notation of Real should be R$ and the plural Reais, so it is less confusing.
There are some other minor things in there. I agree, that there should have been more discussion before putting it into the edited part... but hey... that's just me and my monkey.

Hell,
I blame it all on my tame Carioca - we've been through it a dozen times and we *still* keep finding them! I agree about the Real/Reais/R$ but I guess it's a bit late now.
Otoh - we're looking at doing a wider piece on Rio - are you interested in a joint effort? Should link this and your Sao Paulo page. Other thoughts - Salvador, Iguacu, and maybe the tourist resort at Buzios.
Cheers,
Neil
p.s are you brazillian?

Hey.. Good idea. Of course I'd like to help.
Cheerio,

p.s. I would like not to comment on this. But you can be sure that I perfectly speak portuguese (and many other languages) and that I have a very extensive knowledge on Brazil and Brazil-related topics.

so - how do we go from here? Is there a way to take it off line? I haven't found a way of communicating privately here...

Uh... dunno...
What about making an entry, like "Iguaçú" or "Rio de Janeiro" or "Whatever" and discussing things there?
You (or I or whoever) would then make the sketch of the entry and we would discuss it and bring in things to fill the entry with. After we decide that it's OK to go, correct, factual and fun we put it in the peer review for all the others to tell us that they think the entry is brilliant.
It's sort of like a peer review but just among us, and anyone that thinks he has something to contribute, without the danger of being sin-binned because of bad formulations...
Whaddaya thinksa that?

PS: I do not think that a private off-line secure red-line is needed... What about you?

Barnacle Posted Jun 6, 2001
Nah, it's not necessary, roughing it out here is probably the best bet. I'll talk it over with my partner tonight - I'd like to concentrate on things other than the obvious tourist stuff (Pau d'Acucar, Corcavada etc) though we'll obviously have to mention them - things like the markets, the various districts, samba schools etc. I'll start some new threads.
But you've got me very curious about your history, you atom smasher you!

Oh I found them... Eh,eh,eh... I'll be lurking around.
We should define this thread as a HQ for general things then... What do you say?

Cool with me...I'll get my partner on this with me tonight , with luck - she's swanning off to Borneo for a weeks work on Sunday so I need to pick her brain before then!
