Although it may be true that Satie claims to be anti-impressionist, one cannot overlook the influence that Impresionism may have had on him to create reaction in his work. I think in parallel to Fine Art, Satie's music at the time would be considered post-Impressionist, taking the subtle snapshot of Impressionism and abstracting it with his expressionist reaction or simply his personal expression. Satie might be satire only without the letter 'r.' In some ways his haunting melodies are more Impressionist than the Impressionists because their eyre brings them out to be more "gutsy."
I love Satie's gymnopoedies. I know what they mean.
