The h2g2 Poem

Clouds

I lay back against the grass and looked up to the sky

Observing the soft white clouds passing by

Blown gently by the wind from the west

Identifying the shapes putting my imagination to the test

First I see a tree so tall and strong

Next a flying bird, beak open wide in song

A hare streaking towards the east

A skier gliding down the piste

And over there I can see a tower

Followed closely by a budding flower

A cat chased by a tailess mouse

An exact copy of my neighbour's house

A teddy bear appears so quick

Then a candle, halo around its wick

A fleeting shadow of a shy smile

A crocodile, perhaps on the Nile

A car, a dog, a bat and ball

A drum, a face, an intricate shawl

A kiss, a tear, a shimmering pearl

Out of the whiteness these images unfurl

The changing shapes hold me in thrall

My mind hardly able to take in it all

The simple beauty of a cloudy day

Simply takes my breath away
