Anglophiles are relatively thin on the ground in central Texas, or maybe I just need to get out more.
Yes, very few Americans can do a convincing British accent. Probably 99 times out of 100 they end up sounding like Dick van Dyke, but I've got a counter for that one. My Texas accent is as bad as their British accent so I simply put it on and tell them so.
When you do meet an Anglophile though, it's quite comforting, at least for a while. Very few of us don't like being flattered just because of what we are, and when you're 5000 miles from everyone else who shares your cultural references it's quite a relief to be able to talk face to face with someone who knows what you're banging on about when you bemoan the latest England mid-order collapse at Headingley.
And let's face it, there are plenty of Brits who can't manage that.
