Excellent article. Place names are so interesting.
I live in Selkirk, named for Selkirk in Scotland, and associated with Lord Selkirk and the Selkirk Settlers. South of here is St. Andrews, also a name from Scotland. West is Petersfield, from England. I grew up in Kemnay, Manitoba west of Brandon, named for Kemnay in Scotland. I'm sure if I were to look at a map, I could find a bunch more!
Native names are interesting, like Winnipeg - meeting place.
