.. is almost but not completely unlike cowskin rugs.
You can buy them relatively cheap where I come from, but they will never be fasionable. Unless you're from Texas or Japan..

Thanks for bringing this up, even though I'm late in commenting. The Guide engines aren't terribly good at telling me when people comment on my entries.
I became acquainted with cowskin rugs, when I had to combine a business trip to Texas with a vacation trip to Greenland. I live in Massachusetts in between the two places, so such trips are not common... but I had business, and I had vacation, and I had reservations already.
I went to Greenland first, hoping to buy a *pony*-skin rug, which is reportedly commonly available there -and not anywhere else. But rugs weren't available at Kangerlussuaq where I landed. And on the critical day when I would have visited other parts of Greenland, all airline transport throughout the territory was grounded, because the planes weren't flying there from Denmark, so what's the point.
Devoid of ponyskin rug when I proceeded to Texas, I settled for a cowskin rug, which eventually led to my becoming the Hitchhiker's Guide authority on cowskin rugs. Which is an example of the Fundamental Interconnectness of All Things (tm). Which example Douglas Adams might well still be laughing at, wherever he is right now.
