Women always insist on paying by cheque, despite holding a purse full of credit cards and cash. Add 1 to all female categories.

This female has never actually possessed a chequebook, or a credit card for that matter.

In all my time working on supermarket checkouts, I can honestly say I have *never* seen a male pay by cheque. I might've just been unlucky, but I firmly believe that the vast, vast majority of people who pay by cheque are female.

Not that *all* females pay by cheque, of course. But I do see where you're coming from, Dave.

And in all my time in retail & parking, I could count the number of women (and women amount to the vast majority of both retail & parking customers) who I have encountered paying by cheque on one hand. Men paying by cheque, however, would easily outnumber the women by a hundred to one.

In all probability, the difference accounts to a cultural one though. The only people that I know that have a cheque book are my father and my male general manager.

I also "see where you're coming from", Dave. However the difference between you and I is that before I present a *belief* as *fact*, I put a research into it, injected with a good dose of objectivity.

Yeah, there's no doubt it may be a cultural thing. For the particular supermarket and the particular social area I've worked in, that's just the way it's been. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were variations in other communities and other areas of commerce. In fact, I'd expect it.

I'll still stand by what I said about my experience, because it seemed pretty relevant. It's not like I have an issue with the whole thing, but I thought it was worth saying. Coz you're right - if you're gonna state "facts", you have to try and substantiate them first.

Just to make sure though, I'll have this in mind over the summer when I go back to the tills!!!

I always pay by cash, as I get paid in cash.
