A bumblebee in a flower

Bumblebees

The humble bumble bee's maligned,

Its name is really most unkind,

It does not utter haltingly,

Nor walk at all unsteadily,

It doesn't make a mess of things,

Destroy or ruin anything.

A hairy bee with a nice loud hum,

And a black and yellow stripy bum,

A robust and social creature it is,

And in temperate climes it prefers to live,

It pollinates our fruit and flowers,

Working endlessly in the daylight hours.

They do no sting, do good, not harm,

They do not swarm and cause alarm,

But, if aerodynamic laws apply,

The creature simply cannot fly,

Fortunately these bees can't read,

So such stupid laws they do not heed.

Dear humble bumble bee don't fret,

For I, for one, will not forget,

The deeds you do to help mankind,

If you don't mind, let me say, "Please,

With humble thanks, you're thee bee's knees."
