... just have he radio on tuned between stations - it'll generate a nice flood of white noise which your brain can tune out - and drown out the tap... and indeed the couple making love in the room next door...

Thanks Lucinda. That's a great tip. It's sort of a useful application of my tendency to set my alarm clock to a station that doesn't go on the air until I'm already late for work. Cheers!
