Ironically I doubt most bacteria "live" very long, but then it probably reproduced and its practically identical kiddies live on.

Nope - this is *probably* the one bacterium that was **alive** all that while. It is unlikely that there was any raw material available to keep a long line of short lived animals going all those millions of years underneath the salt...
