have you tried the 'Eat-And-Drink Cafeteria' near Safa Park? it's name suggests yet another dodgy dive, but it's reputation and fabulous food (authentic lebanese i believe) will convince one otherwise! unbelievably cheap prices.
as a newly signed on hiker, would you recommend i begin with this topic? maybe we could instigate a dubai restaurant guide....

I haven't tried that place. But another place in a similar vein is 'The Chalet'. Tried that one?
So do you live in Dubai? Do you go to school or do you work here? Or are you just a tourist who can't keep away?! I like your idea of a Dubai restaurant guide, as the place is hugely underepresented in the Guide. And yes, I would recommend something fairly straightforward like a restaurant review for a first effort. Some people try to make an impression with complex or bizarre stuff first off, but that rarely works out.
Good luck to thee, new researcher!

haven't tried the 'chalet' i'm afraid. is it lebanese?
i grew up in dubai and, quite frankly, think that the restaurant scene is unlike anywhere else on earth, both for value and quality. a friend introduced to this incredible indian place yesterday called 'khazana' (at the al nasr leisureland complex). go there! it cries out for a guide entry....
all the best.

From a Ford Prefect perspective, La Cucina's in the JW Marriott Hotel is possibly one of the most enjoyable restaurants in Dubai for food and atmosphere.
Though, of course for "the end of the world in a peanuts and beer-type way" Ravi's in Satwa is a good bet.
