A Conversation for The Water Towers of New York City, USA

can't see the trees for the forest

Post 1

Shipwrecked

I've never been to NYC and I've never seen, in person, one of these rooftop water towers. But I could picture them vividly as soon as I started reading this entry because, of course, I've seen them countless times in movies and TV shows. All those times, I never knew what they were. I never even gave them a thought. (I suppose I would have figured out what they were pretty quickly if I had given them a thought.)

I find it very interesting to realize that they form an integral part of my mind's eye image of New York without my ever realizing what they are or that they're even there! Makes me wonder what else I *don't* see....
