Climbing Kilimanjaro

I climbed or rather failed to climb Kilimanjaro in the early 70's with the Experiment in International Living. I was sick on the way eight times between the second and third hut, so didn't turn out to make the final ascent. One the way down, I was left behind, which meant no water until the first water, which came from a pipe. I dehydrated and the saliva dried on my tongue into ridges and I started to halucinate. Shades of St Exupery and 'Terre des hommes'. However, the reward was the sweetest thing I have ever tasted in all my life - the first meltwater. When I got to the bottom, those who had made it to the top got a crown or everlasting flowers - I got a posy! I wonder if this still happens?
