A Conversation for Special Dietary Requirements
A year too late...

Okay, I'm late to this party--by about a year. Never mind, I'm going to tell my little story anyway. One Christmas, a family member decided that we were going to have a pot luck dinner for which each invitee was to bring a dish that every member of the family could eat. That sounds reasonable doesn't it? Alas, it didn't come off that well. Here follows a list of the foods that were off-limits:
Any cow's milk products
Sugar, including honey and fruit with high natural sugar content
Wheat
Meat or other animal products (this includes gelatin)
Alcohol
Spices (actually, this wasn't a dietary requirement. Only the preference of one member. I ignored it.)
I have never seen so many bowls of beans and rice in my life. We have never attempted another such meal, but the idea was a good one in theory.
