A Conversation for 'Prairie Home Companion' - the Radio Series

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Until I moved to America almost 2 years ago I had no idea that PHC was a two hour show. I'd spent some time living with an American woman, and one Christmas her family sent us the box set of Lake Wobegon stories - Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and a year or two later Radio 4 serialised some of the stories from Garrison's first book about Lake Wobegon. So there I was, thinking that it was maybe a half hour long show, and most of that was taken up with the Lake Wobegon tale. What a joy to find a whole two hours of smiley - smiley If anyone outside the US wants to listen to PHC, the internet means that you can, but I just went to the NPR website to check on the link, and I don't see it in the "Select a show" drop down menu. Garrison often gives out the url [URL removed by moderator], but that just takes you straight to the Minnesota Public Radio website. I'm sure that you must be able to do it from there.

One thing I noticed in the entry which needs adjusting is the bit about Powdermilk biscuits..... they're ".... pure, mostly", not "...mostly pure". That switching of words makes all the difference to the comic impact smiley - biggrin

I think maybe the entry could be fleshed out a little more, maybe with some info such as the fact that Guy Noir's favourite drink is a Martini with a soybean instead of an olive smiley - smiley. Aside from that, I'm very happy to see it.

The NPR listing does not include Prairie Home Companion because it is not actually an NPR production, strictly from Minnesota Public Radio though most of the stations on which it appears are NPR affiliates.

WHAT?!?!?!? You mean I can't go out and buy Powdered Milk Biscuits?

I love PHC.....it is a great way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon.

A terrific and hilarious show. The most recent show is featured on the own website of the prairie home companion. Listen once and you're hooked.

Thank you for the connection advice on PHC. Out here in the middle of the Gulf, we don't receive NPR, and I've gone through withdrawal pains for four years. Some things about paradise can really drive you nuts!

Can't wait to check it out...so, I'm outta here.
