Well, you could scrub, or you could do it the easy way...
To clean a seriously messed up microwave the easy (or at least, easier) way, fill a bowl with water and zap it for five minutes. Let sit a few minutes so that the steam can cool, and wipe. If your microwave is truly disgusting, you may need to repeat. But this way, you aren't using any cleaning agent (usually flammable--and besides, do you *want* that in your food 
?) and you're steam cleaning the vents as well.
