I don't know where it came from, but my family used to own a small knick-knack figurine of a young girl, ahem, "great with child," hands behind her back, face downcast. The base upon which she stood was engraved with the legend, "KILROY WAS HERE". Not to suggest that an American GI could have ever left a girl knocked up and alone...
