Diary of a No-one

This intermittant series of slightly surreal diary entries comes courtesy of the Blackfield
Church Group. In this series we at the BCG will be looking to take a new spin on life from a
cynical angle. Join us for the first part of the misadventures of Nick Lee and his family and
friends now.

Part of the reason for starting a diary is because I am so forgetful.
Another reason is that I have noticed how surreal life has become
recently. Little things that seem logical at the time, are so
bizarre when viewed from outside the system. Why I am bothering to
explain this to a book is a mystery to even me but I have been told by
my teachers that gathering thoughts is an important skill and I guess
this book will help me do that.
Surreal is a nice way of putting it... take the syncronicity and lack of PR planning shown by
the government today. Item 1 on the spin doctor's presentation: David Blunket MP
announces that Clause 28 (banning the 'promotion' of homosexuality in schools) should be
enforced at all costs. Item 2: The health department announces that HIV is spreading through
hetrosexuals faster than homosexuals (presumably because less gays are being 'converted' due
to clause 28) Alistair Campbell should be given a slap. Surely anyone with any sense would have split up these announcements over at least a couple of
days.
This lack of forward planning, not just with PR but with almost everything, is not just
confined to Whitehall. It has been the hallmark of British Rail, London Transport and all the
rail operators of post-privatised Britain. Their behaviour sometimes stretches to ludicrous
extremes. Connex South-Central has been hit by a series of strikes recently and to reduce
congestion and to get the commuter to his or her destination quicker they have suggested that
the 10,000 workers who rely on this rail network to get into London and to their jobs, don't
go to work.
Those were just two of the events that persuaded me to start this diary of the weird. I am
sure there will be many more. I must go now, the news has just come on.
