A Conversation for Ice Hockey

North America vs Europe

Not for the weak hearted, ice hockey is mostly played by English speaking North Americans, Scandinavians, and Eastern Europeans. The style of play is much different between the two continents. The European teams emphasize skating skills and passing. They employ a much larger ice surface to better showcase this game. North American ice is much smaller by comparison. North American skaters are generally very large, which seems to shrink the ice further. So where the European game can be compared to an Ice Capades show without the Flintstones costumes, the North American game is rather like a rugby scrum on ice. It does tend to keep the score down a bit, but it contributes to a high body count, and a good time by all.

Indeed, so have I. Furthermore I've heard Bob Gainey, Larry Robinson, and Ken Drydan speak French.
Do I really need to say any more?
