A Conversation for Unusual Musical Instruments
Cissdur Started conversation Sep 30, 2001
I think I have seen some of those in a musical museum in Copenhagen, but if I remember correctly it consisted of a lot of glass bowls of different sizes insertet in each other so that the rim of each was visible. The whole set was placed in a wooden box and was turned as a whole when the instrument was played. The player would dip his fingers in water and then stroke the rims of the turning bowls to produce the wanted notes. If I remember correctly Mozart wrote some pieces for it.

The Glass Harmonica is reputed to send listeners mad, and was outlawed in at least one European country.
