Strange to think that nobody at the time blamed Hoddle for letting Batty take a penalty (the 1st in his career)or that Hoddle didn't believe in practicing penalties. Could have been a very different story and far less ugly.

What followed was a typical gutter press move of blitzing a high profile personality. I can't imagine the amount of stress on him and his family back then. Shame on the press, shame on the UK public for buying it.
