A Conversation for Indian Music
Pakistani Music?

I honestly have no idea about either of these types of music.
My parents play this stuff all the time but I tend to either tune out or
put on some Pearl Jam. So what's the deal with Pakistani music?
It sounds the same to me at first but when you think about it, there's
a totally different kind of sound there. Heavy on some sort of percussion
type instrument and with plenty of long drawn-out scream-type singing.
I suppose that's why Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was such an influence on
modern alternative rock, eh?

if one starts categorising music like indian music and pakistani music, one will also find more of such categories. like in indian music there is a broad division 1. Hindustani music, 2. carnatic music. sometimes the artists do jugalbandi. jugalbandi is two singers singing the same song in two different styles eg: hindustani and carnatic. I don't know more categories though.
