A Conversation for Isaac Hayes - the Musician

Isaac Hayes also has (or had?) an acting career, mostly in what are called cult-movies (he was great in John Carpenter's "Escape From New York").
And he has become one of those regularly sampled artists (others are James Brown and George Clinton): his music was sampled by (among others) Portishead, Tricky, Hooverphonic and Massive Attack. (If you don't know these bands, but you "dig" Isaac Hayes, check them out for the laidback vibes.)
Strangely enough 3 of those bands come from Bristol, and the 4th is a Belgian "clone" (but a "good" one, who in the meantime has found its own destiny).

On a lighter note, one could always say that "Joy" was the blueprint for the whole career of Barry White...

FYI: the sampled songs were "Ike's Rap" (sampled by Portishead for "Glory Box" and Tricky for "Hell Is Round The Corner", strangely the exact same sample), "Ike's Theme" (sampled by Massive Attack for "Blue Lines") and "Walk On By" (sampled by Hooverphonic, but I don't remember the title, but it was their first single).

"I'm talkin' about th power of love, I'm talikn' about what love can do..."
Great stuff! Pity he blotted his copy book with "South Park", mind. Terrible, juvenile, toss.
PS. Would question if he was the first black superstar- surely that was James Brown?
